How early is too early...

for civeche??? LOL!!

Is 8:30am too early for yummy, shrimp, citrusy-goodness?? Shrimp for breakfast? Yeah? No?

First of all, small disclaimer: I normally don't spend so much time discussing food of any kind... But with the nature of this blog... I've graduated from the surgery experience to finding new ways of eating with a pouch!! So from time to time, I'll be discussing new cravings and posting great recipes! FYI... those of you considering surgery, your tastes will change drastically!!! It's a good thing though! :-)

I mentioned in a previous post that shrimp is all I can think of these days!! LOL! I've learned that I crave protein, which is good.. But with a pouch, I don't crave steak or chicken... I'm guessing it's because those things aren't easy to digest, and my brain is developing a partiality to easily digested protein! :-) Cheese and Fish are my proteins of choice! Not to say that I never eat the others, don't get me wrong.. But we are talking cravings, here!! :-)

My dear hubby has been taking me around town to scout out civeche favorites! Were talking little hole-in-the-wall joints that people suggest... people who know, apparently! :-) He's such a doll! Lately, my craving is his command... You'd think I was in the family way..LOL! He just enjoys satisfying my new healthy cravings.. Thinks it's funny, I suspect!

Anyways... I started to feel bad for my guys... They were kind of getting tired if Mexican seafood joints! (since I could have civeche for every meal) So I decided to look for a recipe so that I could satisfy my own civeche needs, and they could eat normal dinners that I cook! :-) Another note: I still love to cook, but rarely love to eat what I cook.. I routinely take a bite and push the plate away and go for a piece of cheese or... these days .. Shrimp! :-) Anyways, back to the story... finding a recipe...

Eureka!! Boy did I ever find it!! We are talking "favorite authentic Ensenada blow-hole civeche" <---the place that CREATED my love for the stuff!

So here... I'll share!! Super yummy, protein packed, low fat, low calorie goodness!!

Shrimp civeche

1 lb cooked shrimp, diced small
1 cup of lime juice
1 clove garlic (minced)
-- marinate shrimp in garlic and lime juice for 30 minutes (in a glass bowl, in the fridge)

Once shrimp is marinated, drain liquid off and add the following ingredients.

1/2 cup finely diced red onion
1/2 cup chopped cilantro
4 serano chilis (remove seeds and membrane) finely chopped
1 cup finely diced cucumber
1 cup finely diced tomato
salt and pepper to taste

So yummy!!

.... annnndddd back to my question... How early is too early?

Oh... and forgot to mention.. I'm in a size 4 now!! Yeahoo!!

This week in my pouch..

Current craving of the week!!

Okay.. For some reason I have craved shrimp, crab, civeche, really all types of fish all week long!!! But, how can I complain? It's low fat, low calorie, and high protein!! (oh and super yummy)

It's a great choice though for post gastric bypass, because fish is sooo easy to digest! None of the heaviness that you have with chicken or beef!

Any one else find your self craving all types of cold fish?! :-)
